Protective Style: Ghana Weaving (Thick Chunky Cornrows)

Hey Guys,

Long time, no speak.

I haven't been able to blog for a while because my blog wasn't allowing me upload pictures, so glad the issue has been resolved :)

I've got a backlog of posts to share with you all so check back frequently or subscribe to the blog here so you don't miss out on new posts.
P.S. Make sure you mark my email address as safe/not spam so my mails which have been written with love don't end up in your junk folder.
So, I got my hair did last night and I did something really different.
I've only ever done Ghana weaving once and that was in 2009 because I didn't have much time before the last train to my school left so I had to do a style that wouldn't take too much time.
I actually planned to do smaller cornrows in a 2-step style but I got a last minute invitation to a dinner so I opted for the larger cornrows in an all back style as the hairdresser said she could get it done in less than an hour.
It took 3 Hours, yes, 3 whole hours because the hairdresser made a couple of mistakes so had to lose some cornrows and start over.
One of my colleagues did a similar style and it took less than 1 hour because her hairdresser has got experience doing this hairstyle.
Choose your hairstylist with care, okay.
Ask them to show you pictures of their work as proof and/or talk to people whose hair they have made too.
She used 1 and a half packs of Xpression in colour 1 and added tiny strands of extensions as she braided.
I've got Natural Hair which she blow dried just before she started the cornrows.
It shrunk real quick so one advice I'll give to naturalistas who plan to attempt this style.
Part your hair before the stylist starts braiding and plait the sections so they remain stretched.
In some of the earlier pictures my lips are brown as I used a lip pencil from zaron all over them so it looks like a limecrime salem dupe.
I then put on two coats of my LA girl in rebel.
The tube from this post lasted for about 11 months which I think is pretty good, I only bought a replacement earlier this week.
What liquid lipsticks are you loving these days? I will like to try some other brands like taos inc and zaron,
I've got a yummy tub of Blue Bunny Cookies n Cream ice cream in my hands. I finished the pint in less than 24 hours and no, I'm not depressed or nursing a heart break, it just tastes soooo good.
So what do you think of the Ghana Weaving?
What has your experience been like with Ghana Weaving?
Do you like them thick and chunky or thin and sleek.
Which lippie do you prefer? Rebel or Brown Lips?
Let me know, I've missed blogging sooooo much.

  7. 3 hours!! Say what?? Pele. So much for opting for a quick style. It shouldn't have taken more than an hour. I love ghana weaving. Chunky. In some funny way it 'brings out my face'. Small ghana weaving makes me look wayyyyy younger than I am. This looks good on you. Love the nude lips as well.

Next time I want to try out this style, I'm using someone different.
      Lesson Learnt.
Yeah, a number of peeople kept on saying it brings out my face/features and they thought the big hair/afro had been hiding my face.

    1. You got that right, shuku is even better if you don't like hair on your back!
My friend bought it from the Ice-Cream stand at Debonairs on Adeola Odeku, VI.
I saw it at Mega Plaza today and I see it at Hub Mart, Spar and 3-Mart in Dolphin too!
