Nigeria at 60 | NIGERIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM INSTRUMENTAL COVER

Nigeria turned 60 on the 1st of October and it seems this was the start of a Revolution as Nigerian Youths have been protesting for the past few days.

We are tired of being profiled because of our hair or the way we dress and we have come out worldwide, in huge numbers to make our voices heard.

Sars Must End! Police Brutality needs to stop!

Too Many innocent people killed unjustly, Too many honest Nigerians losing their Hard Earned Money because of Greed & Corruption!

The revolution has started and I am so excited for the change that is about to happen.

Enjoy this instrumental rendition of the Nigerian National Anthem!

NYSC Lagos Brigade Band

Good Morning Folks!!

It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday, who remembers this Rebecca Black Song?

I love Fridays and today is extra special because an article I wrote got published on my favourite website, Bella Naija. The comments so far have been 'interesting', we'll see how things go as the day unfolds.

This post is dedicated to my NYSC Brigade Band members. Our time is almost up, like I mentioned here and I have absolutely loved being a part of this Special Community Development Service group. My love for music and the saxophone has grown even stronger and I've learnt a lot hanging around every single one of my Band Members.

From making sure I was on the parade ground at 4:30 am to play the national and NYSC anthem to practising from 4pm to 7pm in camp everyday, discipline is necessary.

Remember how I said I wanted to put the NYSC band on the map in my goal audit post, this video shows a little bit of what we do. It is a video of the NYSC Lagos Brigade Band at the Closing ceremony of the Nigerian Special Olympics which held at unilag sports ground on the 13th of August 2014. We started with slow march and then proceeded to play sequence 1-6.

Music: Food for the Soul

Good Morning People

I woke up pretty early this morning (4am to be precise), was having lady pains and I needed a Hot Water Bottle. Finally got one around 6 and the pain has now subsided. I listened to a lot of good, soul lifting music this morning and thought to share.

Enjoy :)

My Freedom Hall Experience!!

Hello People!

I haven't really done a music related post since the Kaline one which is kind of bad as I'm always discovering new musicians.

I attended Freedom Hall at Bogobiri on Friday the 20th and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wondering why I haven't been for one in the 11 months since I moved back. It's an amazing avenue/platform for skilled musicians and spoken word artists to show their talent and mingle with like minded people.

It happens every Thursday at Freedom Park and on Friday at Bogobiri from 7 till 10 (No African Time).

The Best Night of my Life!

Hey Guys!

So Open Mic Theatre was amazing last night, if you missed it , ntooo *tongue out smiley*. I’ll be nice and tell you that if you want to feed your Theatre cravings then be at For Colored Girls. It’s not free like Open Mic Theatre was but I’m sure the price would be worth it. It’s showing for one day only at Eko Hotel, 3 o’ clock show is 5k for regular and 15k for vip while the 7 o’ clock show is 7,500 for regular and 20k for VIP. I heard from the grapevine that you have to buy your tickets in advance so call the number on the poster below and reserve your ticket.

Band Aid: Review and some Exciting News!!!

Hey Guys!

I talked about Band Aid in a previous post, it’s been showing all May and the last showings of the play are this Sunday the 25th of May at 3pm and 6pm. My friend, Demi, from here  is in it and there’s a girl in the play who plays sax. I was really looking forward to watching it and meeting her, haven’t met a female saxophonist in a really long time.

Sax Chronicles

Hi Guys

Sorry about the dearth of posts, my mum turned 50 on the 12th of May so my time has been spent planning the event and ensuring it's success. It went really well and I'm extremely grateful to God for her life. I'll probably do a post with pictures from that day later on. Now, to the matter at hand.

When I first moved back to Lagos, I struggled to find fellow musicians to play with. I knew Musicians but they practiced at inconvenient places and odd times. Now, I've found the perfect sax buddy and I’m really pleased.

We have a similar mentality and are at a pretty similar stage in our life. I met him in NYSC Camp as we are members of the NYSC Brigade Band. The world is really small, we have a number of mutual friends, it's really weird/cool.

Anyways he came to my house last weekend to practise for my mum's 50th and we ended up making some videos and finding a drummer that rehearses a few houses away from mine. It's quite exciting, the drummer we met is part of a band called amuntu and they've been playing for decades. I can't wait to learn from them!!

Here are 2 of the songs we messed about with. I know I look different, my afro puff is gone and the weave is here for my mum’s 50th. If you've got any songs you would like to hear us cover, do leave them in the comment box below.

Love,
Detuksss

Good Music: Kaliné- Ololufemi

In the same way I prefer watching stage plays to movies at the cinema, I would rather watch a live band than an artist singing along to a backing track or lip syncing.

This song has literally been on replay since I saw the video earlier this week, I find it really soothing and I know the lyrics already.
