Hi Guys,
Guess what?
It’s National
Small Business week, I know, slightly random, who knew such a week even existed.
So in the spirit of small businesses this post is all about Side Hustles and
there’s a little giveaway at the end.
Yayyy, exciting right?
Jullien Gordon who is a High
Performance coach and consultant defines a side hustle as a business that allows you to use your unique gifts, talents, strengths and skills to create and capture value in the world through who you are and what you do. In
simpler terms it is something other than your main job that brings in cash.
I've realized that in a city like
Lagos, a side hustle is necessary. You can't just have one source of income,
you need multiple streams. I'm a corper so I'm getting allowee (Monthly
allowance) and the school I work at is paying me but that is not enough. My
parents have recently made it clear to me that the pocket money I stopped
receiving when NYSC started is gone for good. Thus I am thinking up new ways of
making money, NYSC ends soon and being unemployed when NYSC is over is not on
my plan.
My mindset has changed and so has my mentality, I am now an adult and will soon need to stop depending on my parents and start paying bills and stuff. I'm really proud of my friends that have got their side hustles up and running so the spotlight is on my 3 of Lagoon friend's for this post:
Harira was my Senior by 3 years in Secondary School and we became friends because we lived in the same estate so followed the school bus everyday. She recently set up a cleaning service with two of her lagoon classmates, Abimbola Shonibare and Mariam Amusan. It's called Pulito services and they run it while balancing their demanding careers in the legal and consulting world. What I find really cool is that one of them is always present at the cleaning to supervise and get involved. There is more info on the flyer below, please patronize them.

Tosin Obalade was my Senior by 1
year and we were in the same house (Blue), Go Opal Go Opal Go!! We ended up
attending the same University and she was a leader at my Youth Group, Drama
Group and we were both members of the choir. She started Zere Fashion House
with her friend, Peter Oladimeji a few months ago and I think it’s a
brilliant Idea. They are working in the Pharmacy and Engineering fields
respectively. It’s an online market place that sells affordable, elegant,
trendy Clothing made by Nigerian Fashion Labels such as Fabric Express and
Rukky Simone. So if you’re looking to get a Silk Iro and Buba or want to #BuyNigerian,
they are the people to go to. They deliver to the UK and Nigeria.
Tomi Ibirogba was my classmate and one of my closest friends, right from JS1. We used to call ourselves Shortee Committee in our Junior Secondary School Days and Quintuplets in Senior Secondary School. She is a lawyer who’s balancing her masters degree at Lse with Mak Nisy. She is their official UK distributor and is in charge of Marketing and Promotions. It's a Nigerian fashion line that specializes in designing and producing handmade bags, footwear, accessories and corporate items with African, Continental and a variety of print fabrics. They deliver to the UK and Nigeria.
