Guest Post: Decisions by Niyi Onikute (Niyi Sax)

Hey Guys!

Happy Sunday! Hope your weekend has been great, mine sure has and it ain't even over yet :) ;)

I was talking to my friend and Oga in the Saxophone Industry on Friday and he was telling me how his mum gave him her Ipad Mini and he's started writing/documenting his random thoughts. I said he should send me what he's written so far and I really enjoyed reading it. He's a Mr. Talented o and he can cook too *wink wink*. He's been featured on this blog before in picturesvideos and a mix of both in the NYSC post. Hope you enjoy reading it, remember feedback is very much appreciated.

Taking a stroll this evening to pick up my shirts at the dry cleaners; I notice everybody going about their daily activities/trade with much strength, as they begin to wrap up and close their shops for the day. Looking forward to tomorrow to begin the "hustle" and quest for survival as usual.

It then hits me when I come across a young boy my age, selling recharge cards and NEPA cards somewhere in the estate. I immediately compare him with myself, first of all with a grateful heart to God for the opportunities that have put me where I am today. The word "DECISIONS" comes running in my head.

I realize we are where we are in life today, because of the decisions we made yesterday. It could be us, our parents, grandparents, leaders or forefathers even. It's a trend.

At some point in life, we are all going to decide to take whatever we are doing seriously. It might be too late, at the brink of time or "too" early; the latter being the best and bringing the most rewards.

The pages of the scriptures (and the laws of life) always find fulfillment in all of our lives. It's your choice whether the fulfillment/manifestation of the scriptures is positive or otherwise.
God has given us the right to choose.

And He won't war with our choices.

So many people find themselves regretting at some point OR at the end of life. Ask them what exactly they're regretting and they respond "I regret I didn't make the decision to........"

Life brings us equal opportunities daily and on the short run, the choices and decisions you make of these opportunities is what becomes of you on the long run.

What is your decision going to make of you?

Decide to love God & show it.
Decide to be successful- by working hard.
Decide to be committed to whatever you're doing, like you're working for The Lord.
Decide to be happy.
Decide to be patient.
Decide to make a new friend today.
Decide to compliment a stranger and put a smile on someone else's face.
Decide to commit to personal development.
Decide to do the right things.
Decide what you want to be known for.
Decide who and what you want to be in your life per time.
Decide to respect people at all levels.
Decide to be well mannered.
Decide to give back to people.
Decide to have the right attitude always.
Decide to be professional.
Decide to use the right words.

What other decisions should we make early in life ?

Everyone has something to share.

  3. Yea...., I've always wondered how everything in life boils down to our decisions. The power of free will has been given to us by God like you said. It's now up to us to decide how we would make use of it, and sometimes indecision can also be a wrong decision on our parts as well because Life isn't passive. Doing what is right isn't passive, it's something you decide to do. This was enlightening to read since I've blogged on something similar before.

    Well done Niyi :)

  4. Thanks a lot.
Yes, yes. Indecision can also be a wrong decision, which in most occasions can be costly. I think the important thing is deciding to DO SOMETHING in every situation we find ourselves. Being conscious of the fact that every decision we make today has a ripple effect tomorrow could also guide us in making our choice of decision.
Please share the link to your post. Would be glad to learn. Thanks :)

  5. Aww Niyi! I really enjoyed reading this, reminds me of one of my favourite quotes "Because how we spend our days, is of course, how we spend our lives". The decisions we make can be the best things that happen to us!

  9. Its absolutely amazing to think how decisions surround us and shape our futures. How the seemingly small and irrelevant decisions we've made in the past are in fact part of the reasons we're where we are today. The thought of how lightly people take decision making is indeed a sad reality; thinking only of how their decisions affect them in the short run forgetting that the long run effects are what really matter.
Its funny when I hear people say "I've been stuck in indecision..." Not knowing that indecision is actually a decision..a decision to not decide! Lool

Really nice work Niyi! The power if decision making is one of those things we need to remind ourselves of as often as possible. See you at the top sir!
