Restaurant Review: BLD by Play Lagos

Hey Guys,

Hope you had a Great Weekend.

Like I mentioned in this post, I went to BLD by Play for a Friend's Birthday. It was my first time there and I was curious to see what a N 2,500 Buffet had to offer

I have driven past it many times as it's at the beginning of Admiralty Road in Lekki, right next to KFC.

There are loads of plants there which add to the uniqueness of the building. It's an interesting colour too.
They have this sign where the buffet table is so you have to get all you can eat in one hour.
The menu had some interesting items that I would have liked to try but I wasn't too too hungry that day
The decor is nice, I love the large windows, there is seating on the rooftop and there is a VIP lounge too.

I thought this chalkboard was interesting,
This is how the buffet is arranged, the salad items are in the little blue house.
The buffet spread isn't as wide as the one at Four Points which I reviewed here. Obviously, their price point isn't the same either.
I really like this sculpture, reminds me of the Olympics, Athens and Rome.
The food items were labelled like this.
I got the Fish Pepper soup which was alright,
This is my friends's plate
Her name is Ify and it was her birthday
The gizzard was my favourite thing
The potatoes weren't bad.
I wasn't wowed by my experience there. The food was alright, you can't really expect Amazing food at that price point. I wasn't allowed to take a picture of the buffet spread. They had a lot of Nigerian options like Asaro. The buffet doesn't come with desert. I was underwhelmed by my experience but I know some people that go there a lot especially for the ambience at the roof top. If I ever go back I will order something a la carte.
Have any of you been to Bld before? What was your experience like?

  2. Never been, and I guess for the price, you shouldn't expect too much. Oh, and thanks for pointing out that it's all you can eat IN AN HOUR. Nobody else has ever mentioned that.

  4. I sorta do not seem eager to even try it. Your tone in this post is not helping either. lol. Plus explain this 1 hour deal please. Am i allowed 1 hour to sit and eat? or I should have ordered and filled my plate with all i have to eat within one hour? And no dessert? Hmm

Happy belated birthday to your friend, she is pretty and I love her dentition.

    1. Yeah, I didn't want to paint it negatively, but the experience wasn't Amazing. When I go out to eat, I expect really good food and this was underwhelming.
You can sit down for more than an hour but you wouldn't be allowed to take food from the buffet table once the hour is over. They have dessert on the menu that you can order but it is seperate from the buffet.

Thank you, I will pass on the information to her :) :)

  5. The plate with the gizzard looked interesting though... I think for the price, it's not so bad.

  7. We haven't actually eaten at BLD, we have however visited their lounge twice. Their Mojito isn't the best (Genuinely doubt if it's made with real mints) but the atmosphere upstairs is what we enjoy the most and their selection of music. They also have amazing customer service,we would be trying out their buffet soon.

  8. lool..the first time I went there, I had the same experience. Underwhelming. I said I woulnt go there again. And then a friend insisted on doing her birthday lunch there so I had to show up. The food I guess is ok for the price, and yes the gizzard was the only joy-point. The sweet potatoes too. I should add that I was quite put off by their customer service. And I'm big on that. The fact that we're paying just 2500 don't mean they can't be cordial and civil. Anyway that was it. It's an ok place I guess. Have you tried Radisson though? Best so far! Costumer service is divine.

    1. I've tried Radisson twice, once on a date and another time with my family. My Blog hadn't properly kicked off at that time, but the experience isn't overtly memorable. I've been to Hans and Rene at Radisson a couple of times though.

  9. U want dessert with 2,500?? Nigerians can never be satisfied.. Lol . Isn't ordinary rice n chicken at some fast food almost 2k?. I have been there and I think it's great value for money .. Only problem I have is there's no rest room upstairs .. I always have to come down to use it .. Oh well..

    1. Yes, I expect Dessert with any Buffet I pay for. Even the £5 ones in Nottingham and London have little cakes or a soft serve ice cream machine. Nothing out of this world but something to slightly satisfy that sweet craving.

  10. I went with a bunch of friends for their buffet weeks ago. It was underwhelming for everyone. I share your thoughts about food; when I eat out I expect it to be awesome. It was just ok.

  13. I always doubted the quality of that N2,500 buffet, now I see why. Been there once, had their fish and chips and loved it. Definitely going back for that and I most likely will only eat that there, no point being adventurous. Loved the ambience up too, plus I had a virgin mojito which was actually good :)

If i have to go there again, I'll definitely order something off the menu instead of the buffet!
