Hey Guys,
How is the New Year treating you? How did you spend the first day of the year? I did a lot of cleaning hence the New Year Giveaway. I also went out with my family for dinner. We go for lunch/dinner every year with my dad's siblings and their family.
I was to choose the restaurant for the day but the dad's wanted Chinese so we ended up going to Pearl Garden, the same place we went last year. Check out my 2015 review of it here.
Most of the hotels were charging N15,000 for Buffet e.g. The George, Radisson, Southern Sun. Did any of you have lunch there? Was it worth the money?
I wasn't excited for Pearl Garden because the reason I like eating out is so I can try new food. I don't like going to the same restaurant twice unless there is a dish there that I really like, I need to go back to Petit Paris and Crust & Cream! We started off with Chicken Corn Soup and Chapman.
Then Spring rolls and Butterfly Prawns :)
My sister went for etiquette class during the holiday so she knows how to fold Napkins in fancy ways :)
Upon all our shakara that we didn't want Chinese we (my sister, mum and I) still enjoyed the food o!

The Prawns in Chilli sauce was so lit, choi choi choi!!
It was definitely my favourite dish on the table :)

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you will know that I love prawns.

Prawns for the win!
The Shredded Beef in Green Pepper sauce wasn't bad but I wouldn't order it from here again. I wish it was a tad bit spicy.
I think it's the one dish Nigerian's always get when they order Chinese.
Anyone know why it's so popular?
We got Sweet and Sour chicken too.
I usually don't like Sweet and Sour Sauces...
But I tried it out before they cleared the table and it tasted really good.
The Singapore Fried Noodles were Legit!!!
There was a Fish sauce which came in a Cute Clay Dish. I didn't try it but it looked good.
This is my plate!
I had Seconds though :)
It's funny that my sister and I didn't want to go there but she ended up seeing 6 of her friends and their family members. One of them was even her flatmate from Uni so my mum said we went there because of her, after all her complaining she had fun, it was like a mini reunion for her and her friends.
I wasn't going to bring out my Camera because I didn't see the point of reviewing the same restaurant twice. I'm glad I did though because my photography skills have definitely improved since my first Pearl Garden review. The restaurant has dim lighting so my flash makes a huge difference. The fact that I play around in Lightroom helps too :)
How did you spend New Year's Day? Did you go anywhere fancy to eat? What Chinese restaurants do you go to in Lagos? My dad alternates between Pearl Garden & Jade Palace. It'll be nice to try somewhere else.
The address is 10A Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island. It's the same street as Terra Kulture. Let me know if you go there after reading this review and let me know what you think of it too.
P.S. My sister and I ended up going to the restaurant I had chosen at a later date. Expect that review soon :)
Everything looks soo good! Havent tried Southern Suns buffet but I've heard from a number of people that it's worth it. So it's a definite must try.
ReplyDeleteI've heard mixed comments about it but more positive ones than negative. I think the price was increased on New Year's day too!
DeleteNah. I just chilled at home on New year day, I just chilled alot during this holiday and loved it - I don't get it tho. Btw your photography skill has just gone up the roof I love it, do you have any tips. Also I don't not like that shredded beef in green pepper sauce, the one I had wasn't too spicy.

Awww, Nice, rest and relaxation is always good so you go back to regular life feeling rejuvenated.
DeleteYayyyyy, Thank you, I ask photographers questions, I ask google and youtube questions too. I think practise also makes perfect, so the more you shoot the better you become, the more you edit, the easier it becomes.
Uh oh, I've been to a Chinese restaurant in VI for a birthday party but I can't remember which one it was. Ah well - the photos are DEFINITELY better this time around. Praise God for growth aye?

Asin, we Praise the lord o!!!
DeleteI'm sure I thought the pictures weren't bad when I took them last year but now that I compare them I see a HUGE difference.

ReplyDeleteSimply Uneeke
loool, I absolutely LOVE shrimps, prawns, crabs, lobsters, most sea food to be honest!
DeleteWOW, What a coincidence. Haven't tried any Szechuan dish in Lagos tbh, going to add that to my list.
ReplyDeleteI am not really a fan of Chinese food, but because I've recently challenged myself to be adventurous with my taste buds(there are too many amazing foods to try to be picky), I have been open to trying new stuff. I tried the Chinese restaurant in InterContinental Hotel and i gotta say, for the first time, I really enjoyed the meal. Maybe it was the choice of wine, of the good company with me, it was awesome sha.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, your photography game is seriously on FLEEK!
I like the fact that you're opening yourself up to new tastes. I haven't had their Chinese, just their club sandwich and breakfast. I'm glad you had a nice experience there though :)
DeleteAwwww, Thank you!!!
